Bio
I am a Toronto-based artist and elementary school teacher. I have a BFA in printmaking from OCAD University and a Master of Teaching from OISE at the University of Toronto.
My visual arts practice is rooted in drawing, embroidery, printmaking and book arts. My subject matter generates from stories I find in history, novels, the media or the internet, which I use as a jumping off point for artworks that reference multiple narratives and histories, finding unexpected inspiration by way of footnotes and tangents. I often work with mixed media, incorporating traditional craft techniques like embroidery or weaving into my work. An aesthetic influenced by drawing and fibre arts is emphasized by a consistent attention to linework, with the binary nature of printmaking processes also affecting my preference for a limited range of colours and strong contrasts.
